The Trapped

Client: ITV News

Project Overview

Development of a campaign microsite supporting The Trapped, an investigative series by ITV News Correspondent Daniel Hewitt examining the conditions faced by vulnerable people living within the UK’s mental health system.

The platform was created to support the launch of an eight-part podcast investigation, providing audiences with a clear and accessible way to explore the findings and engage with the story beyond the broadcast coverage.

Challenge

The investigation addressed a complex and sensitive issue involving vulnerable individuals and systemic failures within mental health care provision.

The digital platform needed to present the story responsibly while making the investigative journalism accessible to a broad audience. It also needed to support the podcast format, allowing listeners to easily navigate the eight-part series while understanding the wider context of the investigation.

Approach

A focused campaign microsite was developed to support the podcast series and investigative reporting.

The platform was designed to present the narrative of the investigation in a clear and structured format, allowing audiences to explore the story while accessing each podcast episode in sequence. Careful attention was given to content hierarchy and readability to ensure the material remained accessible while maintaining the serious tone of the subject matter.

Outcome

The resulting platform provided a central hub for The Trapped investigation, supporting the launch of the podcast series and extending the reach of ITV News’ reporting.

By bringing together the episodes and supporting information within a single digital platform, the site helped audiences engage more deeply with the investigation and the issues it exposed.
